Dr. Paulo Steagall, DVM, MSc, PhD, DACVAA, is a board-certified veterinary anesthesiologist and Professor of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia at the City University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on feline welfare and pain management, particularly the development of innovative tools for pain assessment in cats. Dr. Steagall is the developer of the Feline Grimace Scale, an AI-based and automated tool that evaluates facial expressions to detect acute pain in cats. He currently serves as co-chair of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Pain Committee and Scientific Academic Advisor for the FECAVA Certification in Small Animal Anaesthesia and Perioperative Analgesia. Dr. Steagall is recognized among the world’s top 2% most highly cited scientists and has authored more than 170 scientific articles and the book Feline Anesthesia and Pain Management.
